Answer: 23andme currently only tests for THREE mutations in these genes. So, even if 23andme says you are normal for all three mutations, you could still have a harmful mutation somewhere else in one of these genes. Any harmful mutation means a person has Hereditary Breast/ Ovarian Cancer Syndrome. The three mutations 23andme tests for are found mostly in Ashkenazi (Eastern European) Jews. It just happens that these three mutations are easy to test for and are well-studied. As a general rule, you are hoping NOT to see DI as the genotype at any of your BRCA1/BRCA2 locations. Genotype DI is always abnormal when it occurs at these three locations. (For these three locations, Genotype II is always normal and Genotype DD is almost always normal, as I explain below) To check whether you have the 185delAG mutation on your BRCA1 gene, click here: i4000377 ( https://www.23andme.com/you/explorer/snp/?snp_name=i4000377 ) Are you sure you want to see your results? Then click where it says opt-in required. Normal at this location is II. If your genotype is DI, then you have the 185delAG mutation on your BRCA1 gene and have Hereditary Breast/ Ovarian Cancer Syndrome. (I believe that having Genotype DD at this location is not possible; it is a lethal mutation.) To check whether you have the 5382insC mutation on your BRCA1 gene, click here: i4000378 ( https://www.23andme.com/you/explorer/snp/?snp_name=i4000378 ) If you are sure you want to see your results? Then click where it says opt-in required. Normal at this location is DD. If your genotype is DI, then you have the 5382insC mutation on your BRCA1 gene and have Hereditary Breast/ Ovarian Cancer Syndrome. (I believe that having Genotype II at this location is not possible; it is a lethal mutation.) To check whether you have the 6174delT mutation on your BRCA2 gene, click here: i4000379 ( https://www.23andme.com/you/explorer/snp/?snp_name=i4000379 ) Are you sure you want to see your results? Then click where it says opt-in required. Normal at this location is II. If your genotype is DI, then you have the 6174delT mutation on your BRCA2 gene and have Hereditary Breast/ Ovarian Cancer Syndrome. (If you have Genotype DD, that is abnormal and is associated with even more health risks. However, Genotype DD at this location is very rare.) 23andme has more information on BRCA mutations, here: https://www.23andme.com/you/journal/brca/overview/ Read More: https://www.23andme.com/you/community/thread/27684/ #Livewello http://resqua.com/100005927200207/i-am-trying-to-find-my-results-on-the-brca1brc2-gene-results-tested-by-23andme-how-can-i-do-this
