What is Oxidation ?

  4 years, 3 months ago

This occurs when free oxygen radicals are created during the metabolism of normal oxygen cells. These free radicals are missing an electron and search out other molecules to combine with in order to become complete again. This is akin to having a single guy beat up another fellow so he can steal his girl. Unfortunately, in doing so, they create charges that damage other cells as well as the areas surrounding them. This process leads to oxidation or rust. In effect, your body is "rusting" as it goes through life and this is what leads to aging. It also explains ... ..more

What is Oxidative stress ?

  4 years, 3 months ago

#Cell damage that occurs through the oxidation process. Oxidation is a normal activity and happens within our bodies everyday. Yet when there are disruptions in this process, such as free radicals harming other molecules, the results often lead to toxic damage. Consider having steel or iron pipes exposed in the rain and other elements. As they withstand years of exposure, they are subject to oxidation and eventually begin to corrode and rust. Likewise, our bodies experience similar damage when extensive #freeradical damage occurs. ..more

What is Nitric Oxide ?

  4 years, 3 months ago

#NitricOxide NO is a #hormone that maintains blood vessels throughout the body, keeping them open and free of plaque that would otherwise lead to strokes or #heartattacks. Today, almost every treatment used in #heart disease focuses on directly or indirectly raising NO levels for optimum #vascular health.

What are Free Radicals ?

  4 years, 3 months ago

Although every living being requires oxygen for survival, oxygen is actually highly reactive and can damage living organisms by producing reactive oxygen species. In people, these unstable oxygen molecules occur with everyday living, during the normal breakdown of food or even as the #immune system is activated to fight off #bacteria & #virus. Other exposures include: smoking, using drugs or drinking too much alcohol, eating fried foods and refined sugars, air & water pollution, consuming #excitotoxins (MSG), dyes, toxic preservatives, and pesticides, as well as countless other contaminants that lead to widespread free radical damage, particularly once the body’s natural #antioxidants ... ..more

What are Free Radicals & Oxidants ?

  4 years, 3 months ago

We frequently hear terms such as free radicals, #oxidative stress, and #antioxidants yet what exactly do these mean? Normally, a healthy cell has paired electrons—one that is positive and another that is negative.

Free radicals are molecules without positive electrons and are created whenever there is oxidation, AKA oxidative stress. This is really just a normal part of the everyday fallout of metabolism and by itself, isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Nonetheless, a city overwrought by criminals easily overwhelms the honest and industrious residents. Soon enough, the best and brightest citizens flee to the suburbs while this once ... ..more
