Vitamin B12 is one of the most frequently prescribed treatments in chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) yet it is not uncommon
for it to perform poorly or even to have negative effectsthus. Here Fred provides some of the reasons he believes B12 does not sometimes work in ME/CFS

Taking It in Tablet Form- Active b12 is taken as an oral tablet reducing its absorbtion to below 1%. A 1000mcg active b12 oral tablet might bind as much as 10mcg of b12. Again the b12 has to be squeezed through a keyhole that limits the amount and is subject to ... ..more

What is The Citric Acid Cycle ?

  4 years, 8 months ago

The Citric Acid Cycle AKA “The Power Company” is essential for processing and converting all dietary nutrients (vitamins, minerals, fats, amino acids) into useable forms of energy just as any power industry processes coal, gas, or oil for energy production. If you visualize this cycle as a clock, each hour represents an area in which one nutrient converts into a more compatible form of energy. Depending on digestive function, diet, rate of absorption, and the presence of any genetic quirks, a problem might occur at any point within this clock. This may lead to significant metabolic (chemical processing) imbalances within ... ..more

Adverse reactions to fluoroquinolone #antibiotics ( #Cipro #Ciprofloxacin #Levaquin #Levofloxacin #Avelox #Moxifloxacin and #Floxin #Ofloxacin ) can manifest in patients as a multi-symptom chronic illness that most resembles #fibromyalgia #chronic fatigue syndrome #CFS / #myalgic encephalopathy (ME) and/or an #autoimmune diseases. As is the case with those chronic multi-symptom illnesses, the symptoms of fluoroquinolone toxicity vary greatly from one individual to another. Though almost everyone who suffers from fluoroquinolone toxicity has some sort of musculoskeletal issues (fluoroquinolones have a black box warning about the risk of tendon rupture), #neuropathy and autonomic nervous system dysfunction, those broad categories of symptoms are where the ... ..more

ME/CFS patients are notoriously very sensitive to medicines and supplements. It’s common to have adverse reactions, or to only be able to tolerate small doses.
Newbies are especially prone to taking too large of doses or going too fast. The following explains how to manage such sensitivity.

Start Low and Go Slow

Whenever you start a new medicine or supplement, it is suggested to practice Start Low and Go Slow.

This means starting with very small doses, much less than a normal dose, such as 1/8 of pill. That way, if you're going ... ..more

Understanding #chronic #fatigue Syndrome #CFS

I left the Mayo Clinic in 2007 a little relieved, a little angry and very poor. Now, I know exactly why I was angry after watching the series of videos below (more about that later). Unfortunately, my anger at being diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue prevented me from doing my own research – I was fed up and I just retreated to my cave for five years to try to heal with diet and lifestyle improvements. That was a big mistake because it appears that a number of researchers have figured out chronic fatigue. If you’ve ... ..more

How does Methylation influence mood ?

  4 years, 8 months ago

It is important to understand the basics of methylation, and although a more detailed study of #methylation chemistry may be interesting, for our needs, it is not really necessary to study it here as it will only serve to confuse matters, so only the most important aspects will be considered.

Put simply, the methylation process makes #neurotransmitters (mood building blocks), and the issue of a person being an under or over methylator can be confusing, because there is contradiction between the various sources of information on the methylation process. For our purposes, we'll say that an over methylator is ... ..more

#Autonomic #Nervous System Dominance
The autonomic nervous system controls all of the bodily functions that are essential for survival, yet are mostly spontaneous or automatic. Your heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, and hormone production are all under the preprogrammed function of the autonomic nervous system. This critical neurological system is divided into the #parasympathetic and #sympathetic nervous systems. Aside from #genetic and biochemical factors, this division appears to be significant, influencing human conditions such as #depression , #anxiety , #cancer, #heart disease, #allergies , #ADD / #ADHD , #CFS and multiple chemical sensitivity, to name merely a few.

What does this process look like when it’s broken? After reading the following, you will be able to envision the implications of defects or mutations. The following is an example of the health problems that might occur.
1. Poor nerve function leads to muscle twitching, numbness, and weakness yet misfires can cause seizures, fatigue, memory loss, word groping, clumsiness (with falls & injuries), and visual or hearing loss in those with MS, CFS/ME, or Autism Spectrum Disorders.

2. Depending on the neuro-talker, imbalances often lead to a variety of disorders including: depression, anxiety, panic attacks, irritability, mood swings, OCD ... ..more

What is the Krebs Cycle?

  4 years, 8 months ago

The Energy or Citric Acid Cycle:
The Krebs cycle, also called the citric acid cycle or the “Energy Cycle,” is a series of chemical reactions that convert food (sugar, protein, and fat) into energy (ATP). It is referred to as a cycle since it should always end where it began. This process occurs through three main stages within each cell:

1). Glycolysis, otherwise known as the breakdown of sugar, yields 2 molecules of ATP, 2 molecules of NADH, and two forms of pyruvate (6 forms of currency in all). This is actually a step that takes place before the energy ... ..more

A chemical made in the BH4 cycle, which is used to produce dopamine and serotonin, neurotransmitters strategic in regulating mood, sleep, attention and focus, reward seeking behavior, addiction, and sense of wellbeing. BH4 is also critical in the urea cycle (waste facility) for cleaning up ammonia and making nitric oxide. A shortage of this important chemical has widespread repercussions.

Tetrahydrobiopterin BH4 Cycle produces the BH4 used for making neuro-talkers (dopamine, epinephrine, nor-epi, serotonin, & melatonin). It cleans up toxic ammonia in The Waste Cycle & makes Nitric oxide to protect the heart & brain.

Though controversy exists regarding this cycle’s function, Dr. Yasko’s theory indicates that The Big Motherflipper (MTHFR A1298C) may drive this cycle in the reverse direction and several independent studies support this finding. This leads to a chemical exchange among BH2 to BH4, a multi-purpose product that is used in both the Waste Facility (urea cycle) and BH4 Industry. Within the Better Health 4 Life Industry, BH4 produces chemicals known as neurotransmitters, or neurotalkers (NTs), including dopamine, serotonin, melatonin, norepinephrine, and epinephrine. NTs are central for the communication between nerves and cells as well as stabilizing the crisis response, mood, and sleep cycles. Chronically low BH4 levels increase the risk for ADD/ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, OCD, insomnia, depression, anxiety, and many other quality of life issues. Think of this company as AT&T with a philanthropic twist since it donates BH4 to the Waste Facility for environmental clean up as well as supporting the community in health & wellbeing.

The Waste Facility uses BH4 to clean up toxic ammonia and generates nitric oxide, an element that keeps blood vessels open and free of plaque. Yet if BH4 is scarce, it cannot clean up waste or deliver vital nutrients to the Power Plant (fumarate) so that noxious chemicals back up into SAM’s Corporation. Given the fact that it takes 2 grains of BH4 to clean up 1 granule of ammonia, as well as 2 of BH4 to create just 1 bit of nitric oxide, its easy to see how problems might arise. This underscores the BH4 Industry’s role throughout the community since unlike an actual factory; it isn’t permitted to shut down for repairs or maintenance.

While there are many factors that may impact this cycle, several are listed below:

What is Glutamate ?

  4 years, 8 months ago

Glutamate is the major excitatory #neurotransmitter and the most commonly found NT in the brain. It is required for #learning and #memory , however, an excess of #glutamate is actually toxic to brain cells and nerves. #LouGehrig’s is the most well known disease of glutamate excess but newer evidence reveals many other disorders may be related such as #Autism , #CFS, many #seizure disorders, #Migraines , #MS , and many more. Glutamate balances #GABA ’s calming effect.
