How can I stimulate my vagus nerve

Introduction to The Vagus Nerve

In people with fatigue, food sensitivities, anxiety and gut problems, brain fog and depersonalization, the vagus nerve is almost always at play. These people have lower vagal tone, which means a lower ability of the vagus nerve to activate.

The only question is what aspect of the vagus nerve is malfunctioning and how much the vagus nerve is a problem vs. other aspects of your biology.

The vagus nerve is part of the parasympathetic nervous system, referred to as the rest and digest system. It’s not the only nerve ... ..more

It’s important to determine which treatments are temporary and only required for initial support and healing vs. those which are essential for life long health and well-being. Many of these will correlate with complete blocks, or full typos in your genetic code while some may be vital supports for partial blocks that lead to substantial illness or disability. Most will require anywhere from 10-15 nutrients for maintenance. Still, some will be indispensable, others will no longer be vital, and many others will only be needed as issues arise.

STEP ONE: Layering in The Foundation
Knowing your Nervous system #dominance is an integral part in establishing the treatment process.
A). Remove or limit triggers:
Processed foods contain excitotoxins, dyes, and #toxic preservatives. It is also crucial to remove obvious food #allergies . Please see Resqua pages on #excitotoxins for more information. This is simply defined and discussed in detail.

B). Begin general support:
Provide a good foundation for your nervous system type and begin nutritional support. Though life threatening reactions would be extremely rare (and to my knowledge, unheard of), moving too quickly can result in more intense symptoms of ... ..more

Leaky Gut Syndrome affects millions of people worldwide. While some people show antibodies in their blood indicating an immune system response to the presence of various foods, others merely show signs and symptoms of sensitivity and intolerance. Both of these conditions, and many more, are indicators of leaky gut syndrome.

WHAT IS LEAKY GUT?
Leaky gut syndrome is an un-fancy name given to increased or excessive intestinal permeability. Essentially, the walls of our digestive tracts are compromised - more porous than is healthy and normal, and as a result, particles of food, toxins, bacteria and viruses all “leak” into the bloodstream ... ..more

MTHFR C677T Mutation: Basic Protocol by Dr Lynch on February 24, 2012 in C677T MTHFR Mutations
Have one or two copies of the MTHFR C677T mutation? Don’t know what to do?

After working with 100′s of individuals with this defect, I’ve developed a protocol which may help a significant number of people.
I want to make it absolutely clear that while the MTHFR C677T mutation may be common across a number of individuals, the outcome of supplementing with various nutrients can vary tremendously due to other genetic defects, dietary and lifestyle choices and environmental exposures.

From Dr Ben:
In general, those with C677T mutations have decreased ability to produce methylfolate, increased cardiovascular risk, increased risk of blood clots, increased pain and inflammation and increased chemical sensitivity. Recommendations below support the reduction of these issues by increasing the body’s inherent ability to restore function through nutritional biochemistry.
Limit ingestion of folic acid in fortified foods as you cannot process folic acid well.
Limit or cease taking supplements or drugs with folic acid in them. Talk with your doctor before stopping.
Avoid folic acid blocking drugs such as birth control or Methotrexate.
Avoid drugs which increase ... ..more

Evaluating the nervous system’s style or “dominance” is a key factor in the initial process i.e dopamine or seratonin dominance. This will allow for a more targeted regimen, based on your individual needs. This is why consulting with your Doctor is pivotal.

1. Slowly adding basic supplements & support: general minerals, vitamin B’s & B-12, digestive enzymes, probiotics, antioxidants, essential fatty acids, etc.

2. Gut Health is critical. Since most chronically ill adults & children have at least 1-2 (if not 3-4!) enzyme defects that affect the gut and digestion, the gut is always a factor. Gut bugs tend to ... ..more

Is there a specific MTHFR diet ?

  4 years, 4 months ago

Yes. Avoid all processed foods or foods with FOLIC ACID added (which is synthetic/manmade & interferes with natural folate uptake). In addition, eat zinc & B6 rich foods to help support the folate cycle/pathway of which MTHFR is a key. Due to C677T, supplement with additional L-5-methyl folate; and due to other folate cycle issues (SNPs) supplement with a zinc & also a B multi that has some B6 and B2 in it (B2 is a cofactor for MTHFR & B6 for SHMT which is in the folate pathway, also). Don't forget probiotics too!

1) Biopterin/Neopterin: For those with A1298C mutations, #BH4 (also known as tetrahydrobiopterin) levels are typically quite low. This test provides insight to how low these levels are and why. If neopterin levels are high, then I am considering the possibility of a lingering infection, inflammation or chronic immune response that is preventing #biopterin from being formed. Thus, this test provides information not only potentially low biopterin levels but also why they may be low.

If a doctor simply prescribes BH4 without understanding the need to address the inflammation and chronic infections, it is band-aide treatment over a gaping wound ... ..more
